Preliminary appraisal

Fast preliminary appraisal of artwork and advice on how to proceed further. Expert opinion before and after purchasing art online e.g. at online auctions.
The Preliminary appraisal is a first estimation in front of the original or with high resolution pictures. Given is an oral and / or written statement in email form with information on date of origin, art historical importance, technology, the approximate value and it is discussed whether further studies appear useful.

Appraisal

Appraisal of artwork in a collection and estate.
Investigation on values at home and in the collection prior to divorce, separation and bakruptcy.
The regular Appraisal is an estimation in front of the original or with high resolution pictures. Given is a two page document that includes photos, a written statement on the date of origin, on the art historical importance, on the technology and a reliable statement on the current replacement value and estimation value on the art market.

Damage assessment

Preservation of evidence, extensive examination of the damage and the damage causation. Calculation of the loss in value in case of dispute and insurance claim.
Damage assessments are created after a reasonable investigation to the original. A damage assessment includes the collection and detailed written description of the damage , the analysis of the damage caused , the calculation of the significance of the damage to the artwork (damage quality) and traceable calculating the depreciation of the work of art after the damage.

Condition and condition reporting

Examination of the condition of an artwork with a statement about the original substance, the remaining original substance and later changes. Condition reporting before transport and loan.
The condition of an artwork is examined and documented under direct, reflected and raking visible light, under the microscope and by using UV light (UV fluorescence). Before buying and selling artwork, a condition examination informs about obscured or forged changes of an original at a certain point in time.
Condition reporting is an ongoing process that documents and mapps the condition of an artwork before transport and while on loan. Occurring damages can be traced back to its origin and responsibilities can be identified.

Appraisal of collections, inheritance and valuables

Appraisal of artwork in a collection and estate.
Investigation on values at home and in the collection prior to divorce, separation and bakruptcy.
The valuation of collections, inheritances and household valuables is carried out on site and includes the documentation of stocks with photos, sizes, a short description, the replacement value and the summary of all ratings in document form.

Research

Research on and revelation of the authorship of artwork of unknown artists. Identification and clarification of illegible , overpainted or damaged signatures and labels.
The artist research can be provided by examination in front of the original or, if evidence is sufficient, with high resolution pictures.

Authentications

Research on authenticity and forgery detection.
Authentications include technical studies and material analysis, provenance research, recovering of historical evidence, critical artistic analysis, identification via catalogue raisonne and consultation with the experts of the respective artist.

For the appraisal and investigation on several art works package prices can be negotiated.
Insurance companies and lawyers receive special rates for appraisal, estimation, expertise and damage assessment.
